8 days, 7 nights

1st Day – 3rd Day: Arrival in Marrakech. You will be picked up by our driver (English language) at the airport and taken to your riad. We have different riads in the offer, which are selected according to availability. There you stay three nights and have the opportunity to discover the old town. In the riad, there is an excellent breakfast, the other meals are self-organized.

In your riad you get explanation how to find the best way around the city.

4th Day: You will be picked up at 8 h from your hotel / riad. First, you will travel through the picturesque High Atlas mountains and on to the Tizi-n-Tichka at 2260 m. You will enjoy the scenery and pass berber huts made of stone and mud on the steep mountain slopes. Goats and sheep are grazing in the meadows, and in spring you will see the meadows covered with flowers, with mountain streams roaring along. Lunch is served either in Ouarzazate or later in Tamnougalt, according to your wishes, or your hunger.

After lunch, the Anti-Atlas is crossed along a winding mountain road, before reaching the 200 km long Draa Valley, with its hundreds of thousands of verdant date palms. The caravan city of Zagora will be your destination. You will spend the night in a romantic riad, in the shadowy palm gardens of Amezrou, with dinner and breakfast provided.

5th Day: On the way to the gate of the Sahara, Mhamid, we will pass Tamegroute, which has a famous Koranic library. Even the underground Kasbah and the potteries are worthwhile visiting. You will reach Mhamid, where the Draa river ends its run above ground, and also where civilization ends. Lunch will be at a typical Moroccan restaurant.

You will now encounter the first of small Sahara sand dunes, going on an adventurous trail through different types of the desert, and might even meet nomads. In time for the sunset, you will reach the vast dunes of Erg Chegaga, where the largest group of sand dunes in the region reach an altitude of 300 m and a width of 40 km. The camels are there waiting for your ride into the sunset.

You will stay in a fixed bivouac in sheltered nomad tents. Very often there is drum music to help you enjoy the evening campfire .If you wish more better quarters, you can sleep in the comfort camp, in tents, with your own bathroom and light, or can go to our fabulous luxury tents.

6th Day: After a desert breakfast, we go off road to the legendary Lake Iriki, which is filled only by rare heavy rainfall. This lake then offers an oasis to many rare birds. Most of the year, it is a white flat salt surface, which you can run on just like a motorway. In the distance you will see the magic Zaouia Sidi Abd en Nebi. In Foum Zguid, the asphalt road then begins again and goes back through the Anti-Atlas. Lunch could be ready in Taznakht ot later in Ait Benhaddou.

You next go to the fabulous Kasbah Aït Benhaddou, which is classified as a UNESCO World Heritage site. This 16th Century fortified village is one of the most spectacular and best preserved kasbahs in Morocco. It has served as the backdrop for many films. In 2000 the movie „Gladiator“ was filmed there.

Spend the night in the Auberge Irocha, beautifully located on the slopes of the Atlas, with a nice pool. Accommodations are in a double room with bathroom. On request you can take a bath in the in-house hammam (not included).

7th Day: In the morning we drive back to Marrakech. Even before we cross the Tizi-Tichka again, we make a detour to Telouet, on a narrow road to the historic Kasbah. The residence of Glaoui, the ruler of the High Atlas, lived in his Kasbah with 400 slaves. He helped the French, control the country under their rule, and therefore lost all his property after independence. A visit to this ruined Kasbah lets you see how well he lived. In Marrakech you stay again in a nice riad in the medina.

8th Day: Pick up from your riad, and transfer to the airport.

It is also possible to extend this trip on your own, and to drive by public bus to Essaouira. This trip takes about 3 hours. There, too, you can spend a few days in one of the many beautiful riads. Should you choose to do this, your driver can show you the bus stop, help you buying your ticket, and will be happy to arrange any other needed accommodations.

The price for 2 people in SUVs starts at 790 $ per person, depending on time, availability and number of participants
