Marrakech – Dades Gorge – High Atlas – Merzouga/Erg Chebbi in 6 days

We will pick you up in the morning from your hotel in Marrakesh heading to the High Atlas and cross over the 2,200m high mountain pass Tizi-Tichka. Here you will immerse yourself in a world of picturesque mountain villages, where goats and sheep graze on the slopes and street vendors offer souvenirs of wonderful minerals from the mountains. You then head out on the Road of Kasbahs, from Ouarzazate to Skoura. You will see beautifully decorated kasbahs from ancient times while heading to the gorges of Dades and Todra. We then continue on an unknown but beautiful route through the gorge Rheris, to Amellago and Goulmima, then to Erfoud and Rissani. Here you will observe in front of you, the vast sand sea of Erg Chebbi. Here you will have a day to relax in a beautiful hotel with a refreshing pool.

1st Day: Your driver will pick you up in an air conditioned SUV from your hotel. You will ride over the picturesque High Atlas Mountains, with photo stops as often as you wish. The lunch will take place in the historic Ksar Ait Benhaddou, a centuries-old Kasbah, which was declared a Unesco World Heritage Site. In the afternoon on the road via Ouarzazate, you arrive at the palm oasis of Skoura. You will spend the night at the Auberge Chez Talout, in a double room with bath. Here you will have a very good dinner and breakfast. The Auberge also has a nice pool.

2nd Day: From Skoura we continue on the Road of the Kasbahs. This is the name of the route from Ouarzazate to Er Rachidia with the gorges of Dades and Todra as outstanding highlights. This is perhaps the most beautiful region of the many outstanding Morocco attractions. The landscape is steppe-like and barren, with scattered camel thorn bushes. Suddenly an oasis will appear, with its green gardens, red-brown kasbahs, and red roses. The Dades Valley is the center of rose water and oil, pressed from the millions of wonderfully fragrant flowers, and sold in many places along the road. In El Kelaa, a side street leads us into the rose valley and on into the Dades gorge. There you will have lunch in a typical restaurant. After eating, a local guide will accompany you on a walk through the gorge. In the afternoon we drive high into the mountains on a very interesting route through the rugged Atlas, and arrive at the little village Tamtatouchte. In Tamtatouchte you will sleep in a lovely, simple Auberge. There are rooms with private bath and again very good typical food.

3rd Day: From Tamtatouchte, we travel through the beautiful Rheris Gorge, where many villages still have cave houses. Here we will encounter children begging for sweets. We then leave the High Atlas and arrive at the street of the Kasbahs, at Goulmima, which goes directly on towards Erfoud. On the way you will have an opportunity to stop at the Foggaras, to observe underground water pipes, which are no longer in operation today, but are maintained as a museum. We stop for a visit, and recommend a mint tea in a Berber tent. Lunch may be taken in the caravan town of Erfoud.

In the afternoon, we head to the immense sand dunes of Erg Chebbi. There visit the deposits of million-year-old fossils, and in the afternoon arrive at Kasbah Bicha. This is right in front of the big sand dunes. You will have a great dinner, and a beautiful decorated room with private bath.

4th Day: Today begins the great desert adventure. You take a ride around sand dunes, visit rock engravings, and maybe even find some minerals. Lunch could be a picnic in the desert or a stop at a nice dune restaurant. In the afternoon we drive to the luxury bivouac in the middle of the Sahara, where the camels wait to take you for a ride into the sunset. In the evening, you sleep in a comfortably furnished tent.

5th Day: We return to Rissani, and with luck, it may be market day, where you will have the opportunity to observe a colorful picturesque market. From Rissani an asphalt road takes us on to the Draa valley. Not long ago this road was an adventure that often lasted two days. Today this trip, on an asphalt road, is completed in a few hours. In the evening, you will sleep in a beautiful Kasbah in Agdz. This village appears at first sight to be very inconspicuous. However, only a few kilometers from the center of it is a cool dark green palm oasis, where a French-Moroccan couple has a beautiful Kasbah, built as a guesthouse. Again, there is an inviting pool.

6th Day: This morning we head back to Marrakech. This will be the end of your little tour.
