We then continue on to Volubilis. Here you will observe wonderfully preserved Roman ruins, situated among a very beautiful landscape. Lunch is not included, but we recommend a small, local restaurant, called A l’ombre des Olivier. Here you can taste a delicious regional cuisine. This region specializes in arts and crafts, featuring skilled carpenters that utilize the cedar wood from the area. Monkeys inhabit these surrounding mountains, so with luck, you may see them scampering about at a wayside. In the past, these monkeys used to eat bread crumbs from the breakfast meals of tourists. These days they are purposely spoiled by the local residents, with peanuts and bananas –available for purchase! Now both the residents and the monkeys benefit! We then continue along the road of the Kasbahs, one of the most scenic routes in Morocco. The landscape is steppe-like and barren, with scattered camel thorn bushes. Suddenly we encounter an oasis, with lush green gardens, with red-brown Kasbahs and pink roses. The Dades Valley is the center of the rose water and oil industry, where millions of particularly intense fragrant flowers are pressed, and where we can find many places to purchase them on the road. You will then spend the night at Skoura, in the Auberge Chez Talout, with a magnificent view of the palm groves on the slopes of the High Atlas.
