Day 1: Casablanca – Marrakech

You will arrive late in Casablanca. A driver will wait for you at the airport, holding a sign with your name. Since it is not allowed to bring the local currency -Dirham- into the country, you can change your money at the airport, or get money from an ATM.

Your drive to Marrakech will take 2 – 3 hours. You arrive at a beautiful riad, maybe Tawargit. Normally you will be served tea, but there is no dinner at this late time. If you are hungry, your driver will stop at a rest area on the highway. Moroccan restaurants along the highway are very special, traditional, excellent and moderately good priced.

Day 2: Marrakech

This morning you will have time to relax and get accustomed to your new environment, perhaps taking a first walk in the medina (old town). At 1:30 pm a guide will wait for you in your riad, and give you a tour of the monuments in the medina.

Day 3: Marrakech

Day 4: Marrakech

Marrakech again on your own. Don’t forget to do some shopping in the beautiful rich souks in the old town.

Day 5: Marrakech – Ait Benhaddou – Skoura

You will be picked up by 8:30 am from your riad. First, you will go through the picturesque High Atlas mountains to the Tizi-n-Tichka ( 2260 m). You can enjoy the scenery and pass berber huts made of stone and mud, perched on the steep mountain slopes. You will see goats and sheep in the meadows. In spring, the meadows are covered with flowers, with mountain streams roaring along. Next, you travel to a UNESCO World Heritage site of Kasbah Aït Benhaddou. This 16th Century fortified village is one of the most spectacular and best preserved kasbahs in Morocco. It has served as the backdrop for many films, including the movie „Gladiator“. Lunch will be served there.

In the evening, on the road from Ouarzazate, you arrive at the palm oasis of Skoura. You will spend the night at the Auberge Chez Talout, in a double room with bathroom. A delicious dinner and breakfast will be served here. The Auberge has a nice pool and a hammam.

Day 6: Skoura – Rose valley – Dades gorge – Skoura

This morning you will leave your things at the hotel and go on a day trip. We continue on the road of the Kasbahs. This is the name of the route from Ouarzazate to Er Rachidia with the great highlights of the gorges of Dades and Todra .This is perhaps the most beautiful region of all the wonderful Morocco attractions. The landscape is steppe-like and barren with scattered camel thorn bushes. Many times you suddenly encounter an oasis, with its green gardens, red-brown kasbahs and red roses. The Dades Valley is the center of rose water and oil, pressed from the millions of particularly intense fragrant flowers, and sold in many places along the road. You will take a small road from El Kelaa into the rose valley, and go off road to the Dades Gorge. The road through the Dades Gorge leads to some narrow winding turns, with breathtaking scenery. Bizarre red rocks jut out from a green background, and in between the Dades river with splashing fresh water.

You might have lunch in a restaurant, but sometimes, your driver will prepare for you an excellent picnic. In the afternoon, a guide will take you on a walk along a small path, into the enormous canyon.

Day 7: Skoura – Ouarzazate – Agdz – Zagora

After breakfast, you will leave your beautiful guesthouse, and go back to Ouarzazate. From there, you cross the Anti-Atlas on a 200 km winding mountain road to reach the Draa Valley, with its hundreds of thousands of verdant date palms. The first city is Agdz, a small market place. Along the road you will see old kasbahs, fortresses built of adobe with wonderful decorations. Some are inhabited and some are in ruins. You driver will stop where you request, and you may even visit one of these kasbahs.

The caravan city of Zagora will be your destination today. You will spend the night in a romantic riad, in the shadowy palm gardens of Amezrou, with an excellent dinner and huge breakfast.

Day 8: Zagora – Mhamid – Erg Chegaga

On the way to the gate of the Sahara, Mhamid, we stop in the ancient town of the 16th century dynasty (Saadian), Tamgroute, to visit an old Coran library and a subterranean kasbah. Special pottery shops are also worth visiting. You will reach Mhamid, where the Draa ends its run above ground, and also the civilization ends. Lunch will be at a typical Moroccan hotel, with a pool, where you can be refreshed.

Around 03 p.m. you will start your nomadic life, by travelling along the desert with its different facets of life and diverse components (Erg, Reg, Hammada etc). You will reach the vast dunes of Erg Chegaga, in time for the sunset. These are the largest group of sand dunes in the region, reaching an altitude of 300 m, and a width of 40 km. The camels are already waiting for your ride into the sunset.

You will stay in a luxury bivouac. The luxury camp consists of twelve fully equipped tents, with comfortable king-size beds, private bathroom with toilet, and hot showers and electricity, supplied by solar panels. Each tent has a private terrace with a fantastic view of the large sand dunes of the Sahara Desert.

Day 9: Erg Chegaga – Taznakht – Tisselday

After breakfast, it’s on to a desert exploration of the legendary Lake Iriki. It is filled only by the rare heavy rainfalls, which then provides a haven for many rare birds. Most of the year, this is a white table salt flat area, where you can speed race like your were at a motorway. In the distance you see the magic Zaouia Sidi-Abd-en-Nebi, which is said, that it’s residents have an „evil eye“, and none of the local drivers voluntarily go there. At Foum Zguid, we then get back onto the asphalt road, heading through the Anti-Atlas. If you wish, you may visit a second time the famous Ait Benhaddou, or you go straight to your wonderful guesthouse Irocha, beautifully situated on the slopes of the High Atlas, to relax before your return trip.

Day 10: Tisselday – Marrakech – Essaouira

In the morning you drive on a road you already know, over the High Atlas, back to Marrakech. From there we continue to the coastal town of Essaouira. This small medieval town is beautifully located and has a romantic fishing port. You will stay in a wonderful riad near the port and the beach, but also in the middle of the old town. Essaouira is small and you will be able to see all the monuments on foot. In this riad, you have only breakfast furnished, so you will have an opportunity to try some of the excellent restaurants in town.

Day 11 + 12: Essaouira

You can enjoy Essaouira on your own, as a guide is not necessary.

Day 13: Essaouira – Safi – El Jadida

After breakfast, a driver will pick you up for your final trip. You will take the road along the Atlantic Ocean, and you can imagine seeing Florida just on the other side! You will reach the old pottery town Safi, where you take a walk to enjoy the old town.

We then continue along the Atlantik to Oualidia. This little place is the most beautiful on the Atlantic Ocean, and is known for its seafood. You may have a very good lunch there, before continuing to the old portuguese city El Jadida. There you will stay for the last time in a beautiful riad, and have a great dinner there.

Day 14: El Jadida – Casablanca

In the morning you may take your time with a leisurely last breakfast. Later your driver will take you to Casablanca, the economic capital of Morocco. There you can visit the famous mosque of Hassan II, an excellent example of traditional Moroccan architecture.

In the afternoon, your driver will take you back to the airport.
